As parts of Canada see a second wave of COVID-19, chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison says there are no new cases in P.E.I.
Morrison provided the update during a weekly briefing this morning.
With no new cases, Morrison said there are still three active cases in the province, all of them are doing well and they remain at home in self isolation.
Morrison said there have been 61 cases of COVID-19 in P.E.I. since the pandemic began, all of which were travel related.
As P.E.I. continues to have few positive cases of the coronavirus, Morrison said other provinces are seeing the impact of a second wave.
Morrison said there has been an alarming rate of increase in new cases in some provinces, including Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba.
Nationally, the daily case counts are in the same range as in April during the first phases of the pandemic, she said.
With that second wave in other provinces, Morrison said P.E.I. will maintain its pre-approval travel process and border screening, along with increasing the capacity for testing and contact tracing.
Morrison said that as plans begin for Thanksgiving, she urges Islanders to keep gatherings small.
Keeping gatherings small and scaling back won’t be the norm forever, she said.
Morrison said personal gatherings in a residence are limited to 20 people and just because someone might know people at an event, it doesn’t mean that reduces the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
More to come.
