Roger Jollimore is running in the Region of Queens Municipality.

Q. What is your full name?

Roger L Jollimore

Q. Where are you from?

Mersey Point, Queens County

Q: What election are you running in?

Councillor for the Region of Queens, District 3

Q. What did you do before you decided to run for office?

I'm a retired teacher, school principal, and guidance counsellor

Q. Why have you chosen to run in this election campaign?

I have lived all of my life in Queens County. I grew up here and, following university, I returned to pursue a 32+ year career in education. Having worked in Queens County schools throughout my career. I have been able to help hundreds, even thousands, of students from this community.  Now, I would like the opportunity to become a member of municipal council so I can use my skills to contribute to the continuing growth and development of what I feel is one of the best places on Earth to live.

Q. What strengths would you bring to council if you are elected?

My background as an educator and guidance counsellor demanded that I possess a variety of skills including leadership, organizational, intellectual, and time management. I was also (required) to work with people, have empathy for others, and communicate well.

Q. What do you see as the biggest strength/asset of the community/region and what measures would you take to capitalize on them?

The biggest strength/asset of our community is the people. People in Queens County are friendly, hard-working, and community-minded. They are kind and generous, and they go out of their way to be helpful. They also have great ideas about what they feel is needed in our community.  Consequently, I think it will be extremely important for a councillor to keep lines of communication open and listen to what people have on their minds.  That information can then be used by councillors to help provide the blueprint for how we proceed as a municipal government.

Q. What do you feel is the key challenge facing the community/region and how would you work to address it?

I feel the overriding issue in our community, as it is in many others, is community growth. We need to continue to find ways to encourage families to move to Queens County. Young families, retired individuals, entrepreneurs, professional people are all welcome to join us in Queens. To attract new people to our area we need to support and grow our business community, be able to offer high-quality facilities for people to use, and be able to take care of the health and long-term care of community members. Developing a first-rate brand for Queens County, securing new facilities for elderly populations, and adding facilities like a new library and swimming pool would all contribute to attracting people to our area.

Q. What one message do you hope gets out to the voters during this election campaign?

Should I be so fortunate as to be voted in as your councillor for District 3, my promise to you is that I will work tirelessly to perform all of my duties as councillor to the best of my ability.
